Help:Navigation

This page is a help page It is meant to detail processes or procedures of some aspect or aspects of K6ka's Wiki's norms and practices. It is not a policy page.

There is a lot of content on K6ka's Wiki, and it can seem a little overwhelming at first. Fortunately, there are many different ways of getting around the site. We call this navigation.

Each page contains three main navigation elements to help readers and editors get around:

1. The sidebar. This is the column shown on the left side of the screen. It contains a number of useful links to help you get around.
2. Page tabs. These are the tabs that are shown at the top of the page. They relate to the page currently being displayed, and let you access things like the associated talk page, page history, and of course, the edit button.
3. User links. These are the links shown on the top-right of the screen and relate to your account and user profile. If you are not logged in, this section will provide links for you to create an account or log in.

Each page will also contain a search box, usually in the top-right corner of the screen. The search box lets you find pages with the title or with the text that you search for.

Sidebar

The sidebar is shown on the left side of the screen, and provides access to a number of important links. The sidebar contains some of the following links:

• Main page. Clicking this or on the wiki's logo will take you to the Main Page.
• Random page. This will take you to a random article on the wiki.
• Recent changes. This will take you to a page that lists all the recent changes to the wiki, such as the latest edits.
• Help. This links to the main help page.
• About K6ka's Wiki. This links to the About Us page, telling you more about the wiki.

The sidebar also contains a toolbox that has links leading to some of the inner workings of the wiki. These links may change depending on the kind of page you are viewing.

• What links here. This will take you to a page that lists all the pages that currently link to the page you were viewing.
• Related changes. This will take you to a page that shows the recent changes made to pages that are linked to on the page.
• Upload file. This will take you to a page that lets you upload files and images to the wiki.
• Special pages. This takes you to a page that lists all special pages on the wiki. Special pages are a type of page that are generated automatically by the software and are typically used for maintenance or to display technical information.
• Printable version. This lets you print the page, either from your printer or as a PDF.
• Page information. This takes you to a page that shows technical information about the page you are viewing.
• URL shortener. This takes you to a page that lets you generate a shortened URL for the page that you can link to elsewhere.

Page tabs

The page tabs are shown at the top of the page, to the right of the wiki's logo. These tabs allow you to perform actions relating to the current page.

Usually, the tabs available include:

• Page. If the page you are viewing is in the article namespace, it will just say 'Page'; otherwise, it will say the name of the namespace the page is in. Clicking on this tab will take you to view that page, or reload the page if you are already viewing it.
• Discussion. This will take you to the talk page of the page you are viewing, or reload the page if you are already viewing the talk page. Talk pages are used to discuss changes and improvements to the page.
• Read. If you are editing or viewing the history of the page, clicking this tab will take you back to the page. Otherwise, clicking this tab will reload the page.
• Edit. This will let you edit the contents of the page and make changes to it. You may see two variations of this tab: one says "Edit", while the other says "Edit source". Clicking on "Edit" will load the VisualEditor, which lets you edit the page like a Word document, while "Edit source" lets you edit the raw wiki markup of the page.
• View history. This will take you to the page history of the page, which shows all past edits made to the page.

If you are logged in, you will see a few additional options:

• (star symbol). This will add the page, and its associated talk page, to your watchlist, which allows you to track changes made to the page more easily. When the page is on your watchlist, the star will be filled in . Click on the star again to remove the page from your watchlist.
• Move. This lets you rename the page to a new title.

User links

The user links are displayed at the top far right of the page. These links allow you to manage your wiki account.

If you are not logged in, these links are shown:

• Talk. This links to the user talk page for the IP address you are using.
• Contributions. This links to the user contributions page for the IP address you are using, which will list all edits to the wiki that were made from that IP address.
• Create account. This lets you create a new account for use on K6ka's Wiki. Your account is managed by Miraheze, the wiki hosting platform K6ka's Wiki is on, and can be used on all Miraheze wikis.
• Log in. If you have an existing Miraheze account, you can log in to it from here.

If you are logged in, these links are shown:

• <your username>. This links to your user page.
• Talk. This links to your user talk page.
• Preferences. This links to your user preferences.
• Beta. This lets you enable new beta features for your account.
• Watchlist. This shows you your watchlist.
• Contributions. This shows you your user contributions, which lists all the edits you've made from your account.
• Log out. This button will log you out of your account. You should use this if you are using a shared or public computer before closing your browser.

Other ways to navigate

Many pages on the wiki contain links pointing to other pages on the wiki. Many pages will also have categories at the bottom of the page that can also be used to navigate around the wiki.
