|This page is a help page|
It is meant to detail processes or procedures of some aspect or aspects of K6ka's Wiki's norms and practices. It is not a policy page.
A skin is a style of appearance and layout for a MediaWiki-based website like K6ka's Wiki. Changing the skin changes how the interface and layout of the site appears. Although skins vary in their look and feel, in general they contain the same user interface components, such as Edit and Page History buttons.
K6ka's Wiki uses the Vector skin by default, which is also the default skin currently used on Wikipedia. Users who are logged in can choose from five additional skins if they wish to customize their appearance of the site.
K6ka's Wiki currently offers the following skins:
- Cologne Blue
- Minerva Neue (default for mobile)
- Vector (default for desktop)
Changing your skin
To change your skin, you first must have an account and be logged in to it. Once that is done, go to your user preferences and select the 'Appearance' tab. The skins available on offer will be displayed under the Skin section. You can click the Preview button to see how the Main Page would look using the skin.
It is also possible to see how a particular page would look like in a particular skin by suffixing the URL of the page with
?useskin=name of skin. This can be done by anyone, even by those who are not logged in, but this change will not be saved and the process will need to be repeated for each page.
Customizing the skin
Keep in mind that K6ka's Wiki only truly supports the Vector skin. While other skins may work just fine on the site, some elements may not be optimized to work on other skins, and some things may not appear correctly.
