A skin is a style of appearance and layout for a MediaWiki-based website like K6ka's Wiki. Changing the skin changes how the interface and layout of the site appears. Although skins vary in their look and feel, in general they contain the same user interface components, such as Edit and Page History buttons.
K6ka's Wiki uses the Vector skin by default, which is also the default skin currently used on Wikipedia. Users who are logged in can choose from five additional skins if they wish to customize their appearance of the site.

K6ka's Wiki currently offers the following skins:
- Cologne Blue
- Minerva Neue (default for mobile)
- Modern
- MonoBook
- Vector (default for desktop)
- Timeless
Changing your skin[edit source]
To change your skin, you first must have an account and be logged in to it. Once that is done, go to your user preferences and select the 'Appearance' tab. The skins available on offer will be displayed under the Skin section. You can click the Preview button to see how the Main Page would look using the skin.
It is also possible to see how a particular page would look like in a particular skin by suffixing the URL of the page with ?useskin=name of skin. This can be done by anyone, even by those who are not logged in, but this change will not be saved and the process will need to be repeated for each page.

Customizing the skin[edit source]
You can further customize skins for your own account by adding Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) or JavaScript (JS) code to certain subpages of your user page. You can access these pages by going to your user preferences and select the 'Appearance' tab. The skins available on offer will be displayed under the Skin section. You can use the Custom CSS and Custom JavaScript buttons to access these pages. You can either add CSS or JS code that applies only when you use a specific skin, or add them to a "common" file that applies your changes to all of your skins.

Keep in mind that K6ka's Wiki only truly supports the Vector skin. While other skins may work just fine on the site, some elements may not be optimized to work on other skins, and some things may not appear correctly.
